This year, National Harbor will be joining the Washington, D.C. region in the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival which celebrates spring, the gift of the cherry blossom trees, and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan. On Sunday, April 14, National Harbor will share authentic Japanese Cherry Blossom bloom traditions at the annual Sakura Sunday event, an official participating event of the 2019 National Cherry Blossom Festival, in the Waterfront District.
Sakura Sunday at National Harbor will feature a wide array of free activities including traditional Japanese picnicking with food available for sale, a sake, rosé and beer garden, a Japanese Market and Japanese-inspired music and entertainment. National Harbor is partnering with the Japan-American Society of Washington, D.C. to bring in world-class Japanese entertainment and Japanese artisans.
Restaurants and retailers in the Waterfront District will also participate in special offers and a cherry blossom store display window competition and The Capital Wheel will turn pink during the festival. Muse Paintbar will feature cherry blossom art classes and a live painting demonstration during Sakura Sunday.
